ALOR SETAR: Participants of the Azam Tani programme under the Agriculture And Agro-based Industry Ministry have been advised to be not easily satisfied after they have succeeded in coming out of the clutches of poverty.

Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said they should continue to improve their performance and go on to  become successful entrepreneurs.

He said by expanding their business and becoming entrepreneurs, the particpants would have more opportunities in the marketing area and be able to generate better income.

“The target of the Azam Tani programme is to bring them (the participants) out of poverty line.

“Although the ministry has achieved its KPI (key performance index),  so far I am still not satisfied, I want them (the participants) to go even further.

“There are agencies such as Tekun (The government-owned Entrepreneur Group Economic Fund) and Agro Bank that can help them in expanding what they are doing and becoming entrepreneurs,” he told reporters after attending a get-together programme

with Muda Agricultural Development Authority’s (Mada) Azam Tani participants here, yesterday.

Ismail Sabri added that since the programme was introduced in 2011, there were more than 900 participants under the Mada itself, involving more than RM4.5 million in allocations, and for this year  RM2 million had been allocated for 250 participants. — Bernama
