KUALA LUMPUR: Film actress Latifah Omar, who died of intestinal problem Sunday, was laid to rest at the Muslim Cemetery at AU4, Lembah Keramat, yesterday morning.

Latifah, 74, breathed her last at 6.19 pm on Sunday at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (PPUKM).

Among those present at the burial were the director-general of the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) Raja Rozaime Raja Dalnish Shah, and his deputy Fatimah Ahmad.

Raja Rozaime also handed over a contribution of RM5,000 from Finas to the eldest son of the late actress, Affendi Rahmat.

Also present were Datuk Rosnani Jamil, Datuk Maria Menado, Datuk Aziz Satar, Datuk D.J Dave, Datuk Mustafa Maarof, Datuk Sarimah Ahmad, Aspalela Abdullah and Lydiawati.

Latifah, who frequently co-starred with Nordin Ahmad besides Tan Sri P.Ramlee, Normadiah, Yusof Latif and Ibrahim Pendek, is survived by four children and eight grandchildren.

She had starred in the films ‘Panggilan Pulau’, ‘Bawang Putih Bawang Merah’, ‘Laila Majnun’, ‘Putus Sudah Kasih Sayang’, ‘Gurindam Jiwa’, ‘Hang Jebat’ and ‘Hati Batu’.

Meanwhile, Maria said she was really saddened by Latifah’s passing because they used to be very close friends to the extent that Latifah had addressed her as ‘sis’.

“The late actress was very fond of me and we had shared a room when we attended a film festival in Kuala Lumpur in 1961, and had an opportunity to have tea with the then prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al Haj,” she said when approached by Bernama.

Maria, who was thankful that she had the time to visit the late actress at PPUKM on Friday, described Latifah as someone who never complained and did not like to burden others even when she was in difficulty. — Bernama
