MIRI: The body of a security guard was found floating in a pond somewhere at Marina Bay in Jalan Brighton here yesterday.

Eric Jikie, 50, is believed to have drowned while fishing.

A tractor driver about to start work that morning found the body.

“After seeing his head floating on the pond, I rushed off to inform my colleagues of the discovery,” Evan Asui, 29, recalled at the scene yesterday.

A police team rushed to the scene after being informed of the incident about 9am to take the body to Miri Hospital for a postmortem.

Police chief, ACP Mun Kock Keong, when contacted yesterday, disclosed that no foul play was involved.

“The case is classified as sudden death,” he said.

According to sources, it is believed that Eric had gone there fishing but tripped and fell into the pond.

Some scratch marks were found on Eric’s body – between his ribs and hip – believed caused when he slid on the rock before falling into the pond.

According to sources again, Eric’s working shift was from 7pm to 7am.

Police are still looking for his fishing equipment at the scene.
