SHAH ALAM: Three individuals who will represent Malaysia at the World Skills Competition (WSC) in Leipzig, Germany, next month want to win a gold medal at the prestigious international competition.

They are Nik Mohd Fakhrul Razi Nik Ahmad Kamil, 22, Chen Kim Leun, also 22, and Ruqaiyah Azahari, 19, three of the 14 Malaysians chosen to represent the country at the WSC.

Nik Mohd Fakhrul Razi said the knowledge and skills he picked up in the field of electrical installation at the Industrial Training Institute (ILP) in Kuala Terengganu would hold him in good stead to win a gold medal at the competition, scheduled for July 2 to 7.

“The winners of this competition can contribute directly to the initiative undertaken by Malaysia to develop workers of an international standard,” he told reporters after Deputy Human Resource Minister Datuk Ismail Abdul Muttalib handed over the “Jalur Gemilang” Malaysian flag to the country’s contingent going to the WSC. The gold medal winner of the 2012 Asian Skills Competition (ASC) said his elder brother, Nik Mohd Saufi, a trainer at ILP Kuala Terengganu, gave him the necessary moral support to be a participant at the WSC.

The WSC is an international competition where youths from member nations of the International Vocational Training Organisation (IVTO) compete in their respective fields. — Bernama
