KOTA KINABALU: Quick response by workers prevent a fire outbreak from spreading to the entire commercial building at Hilltop Kolam Centre II, Jalan Lintas yesterday.
It was learnt that the fire started in the kitchen at a workers’ dormitory on the third floor of the building around 9.30am.
Several workers who stayed at the hostel immediately grabbed a fire entinguisher to prevent the blaze from spreading.
Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Mohd Affendy K. Ramin, said the department received a distress call regarding the fire at 10am.
“Six fire trucks with 20 personnel were despacted to the scene but we were informed that the workers had put out the fire with a fire extinguisher and the operation ended around 10.55am.”
Mohd Affendy said the fire only involved the kitchen in the hostel. The cause and estimated loss are still under investigation.
