GEORGE TOWN: The family of the victim of the collapsed ramp of the Second Penang Bridge on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway have the right to legal action against the responsible parties.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said the government was also sympathetic towards the family of the victim, Tajudin Zainal Abidin, 45, and had visited them in Batu Maung here.

“I want to state clearly that whatever further action involving the process of the law is the right of the family.

“I also want to confirm that my meeting with the family of the victim has nothing to do with any attempt to deny them their right,” she told reporters after visiting the site of the collapse here, yesterday.

However, she declined to comment further on the latest development on the incident, saying an official statement would be issued by the ministry after a complete report on the matter had been received.

On Tuesday, a brother of the victim, Khairudin Zainal Abidin said legal action would commence
next week to seek justice for the family of the victims.

The legal action would be taken to seek justice and compensation for the victim’s first wife Shara Ismail, 44, second wife Shariffah Ramli, 40, and four school-going children.

The incident, which took place at 6.40pm on Thursday, also injured two foreign workers and a local woman. The injured were Slamat, 36, from Indonesia, Tin Maung Iwin, 39, from Myanmar and Thilasheni Rajendran, 24. — Bernama
