KUALA LUMPUR: Boeing will give two Malaysian aerospace industry advocates a rare leadership development opportunity with advanced training in the United States as part of the company’s Human Capital Development Initiative aimed at boosting the industry domestically.

Boeing announced, at the SMIDEX Conference for Malaysia’s small and medium enterprises in Kuala Lumpur, an agreement for two representatives designated by SME Corp and Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MiGHT) to attend the Programme Managers Workshop at the Boeing Leadership Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

The centre is where Boeing trains employees and other stakeholders to become future leaders.

During the week-long training session in October, the Malaysian attendees will work side-by-side with Boeing managers to build their abilities to plan, lead, manage and execute successful programmes. The workshop is designed so that participants learn from each other and strengthen the skills that will help them improve programme performance and business effectiveness.

“Ideally they will return with new ideas and skills that will help Malaysia’s aerospace industry grow and enable us to become more effective partners,” said Boeing Defense, Space & Security East Asia & Pacific Business Development vice president, Jim Armington, in a statement today.

The recently launched Human Capital Development Initiative is an effort by Boeing and suppliers for the Super Hornet jet fighter programme to work with Malaysia’s leaders to create education and training programmes that will benefit the country’s aerospace industry.

The programme is designed as a holistic approach to aerospace talent development, from getting Malaysian youth interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines to providing hands-on training for industry leaders.
