SANDAKAN: Every year, the Anglican Diocese of Sabah invites a few thousand youths to attend English, Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia Diocesan Youth camps to provide enriching experiences for them, thus making a deep impact in Sabah’s society.

This year, 700 participants attended the Chinese camp, 300 attended the English camp and 2,300 attended the Bahasa Malaysia camp.

Deputy Chief Minister cum state Industrial Development Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah officiated the Diocesan Chinese Youth Camp June 2013 held at The Church of The Good Shepherd Sandakan this month.

Speaking at the ceremony, Raymond said the youth camps provided an opportunity for young people to showcase their unique talents and capabilities, and to exercise leadership abilities.

“Through various programmes, the youths are able to enhance or discover skills, talents, creativity and intelligence.

“Young people need to show themselves to be trustworthy, disciplined, unafraid to take initiative, lead by example, honest and most importantly, have a sense of being led by God. These can be achieved through spiritual talks and mingling with one another in good, healthy activities.

“It is my desire to ensure that our youths’ needs are fulfilled spiritually, so that they can be strong in their foundations.

What makes them stand out against others is their strong character,” he said.

Furthermore, Raymond emphasised that young people must think and act right and wisely in order to contribute to the country’s future in a relevant and creative way.

Meanwhile, he also congratulated Reverend Alan Lim, the organising chairman, and his committee for setting forth such high goals to organise a successful camp so that the youths can utilise their time productively and creatively for fellowship in Christ.
