Awg Tengah: BR1M a strategic move

LAWAS: The 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) is a strategic initiative which not only helped people from the lower income group weather the rising cost of living but also stimulated the economy.

“It has never been a waste of money that could bankrupt our country as alleged by the Opposition, “ said Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan before presenting BR1M 2.0 vouchers to 808 recipients at Lawas Indoor Stadium on Friday.

He said the aid had contributed to domestic economic activities while enabling the recipients to purchase essential items at the same time.

Awang Tengah said those who failed to appreciate this noble effort by the government were those who had been hoodwinked by the Opposition.

“We should think wisely and see through their empty rhetoric and promises.

“Continue to rally behind the BN which has delivered on all its promises all this while.”

On the success of Datuk Henry Sum Agong in retaining Lawas in the recent 13th general election, Awang Tengah thanked the electorate for their support.

He said the post-GE13 stock market rally underscored the confidence investors had in the BN government and its various transformation programmes.

Sum, who also spoke, said the presentation of BR1M 2.0 yesterday proved once again that the aid was not an “election sweetener” but a commitment by the government to help the people.

“There are still some more names on the list. They will receive it (aid) later this year,” said Sum, who also called for unity to move Lawas forward.
