Man beaten by group succumbs to injuries

KOTA KINABALU: A 22 year-old man died as a result of serious injuries sustained after being beaten up at a Harvest Festival celebration at Putatan here on Saturday.

It was learnt that the victim, Akram Hajiri, had gotten into an argument and subsequently a fight with a man at the community hall at Kg Buit Hill at around 7.30 pm on Saturday.

However, soon after he escaped home, the victim returned to the venue armed with a machete (parang) and searching for the man that he had argued with earlier.

A fight broke out again and the victim was beaten up by friends of the man that he had differences with.

The victim’s wife reportedly rushed to the scene upon hearing the news and immediately requested the men to leave her husband alone. She then called for an ambulance to take her husband to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. However, the victim succumbed to his injuries.

Penampang OCPD, Deputy Superintendent Ratan Kumar Singh, said, the police have arrested two suspects in the village believed to have been involved in the case at 12.15 am yesterday.

The suspects, aged 23 and 32 years old respectively, have been detained for further investigation. The case will be investigated under murder.
