KOTA KINABALU: The West Coast Vehicle Service Handling Agents Workers’ Association, or PERKAS, recently saw the installation of its new committee members for the year of 2013 to 2015.

The new committee members comprise Yong Ah Ngau @ Yong Wei Kiong as association chairman, Lim Ho Ching @ Richard Lim as vice chairman, Faezah Chin Tsun Gi as secretary, Mah Sui Yin @ Helen Mah as treasurer and Mohd Syarie Abdul Latiff as assistant secretary.

Other committee members who were sworn in during the association’s swearing-in ceremony at the Cherry Restaurant near here Saturday night include Lee Yan Fong, Ho Kah Heng @ Edward Ho, Bong Pit Sie Jimmie, Abdul Halim Mohamad, Yong Kwet Kiong, Chong Fui Yin, Kenneth Hiew Ket Leong, John Liew, Ronald Aloysius Paut and Eric Bansalad.

Newly re-appointed chairman Yong Ah Ngau told the members of the association prior to the swearing-in ceremony that the association has nearly 100 members now.

The association was registered with the Registrar of Society on April 2002 and had recently celebrated its 12th anniversary, he said.

Yong added that even though there are only 100 members in PERKAS, there were between 150 to 200 agents who dealt directly with PUSPAKOM and the Commercial Vehicle Licencing Board (CVLB) with issues related to vehicles handling.

He also urged those in need of PERKAS’ services to opt for the association members instead of approaching non-members as the former were registered with PUSPAKOM and could easily be contacted if any problem arose.

The guest of honor during the event, Dr James Yong Chau, who had served as permanent advisor for the association, also made the same call and said that it was better for companies which require the services provided by the association’s members to seek them instead of other non-registered members.

“For one thing, they will not run away with the monies you have paid to have the services provided to you,” he said.

Aside from dealing with PUSPAKOM, the members can also assist in paying for road taxes, trading licenses and so on, James added.

Also present during the event were Inanam assemblyman Dr Roland Chia and Api-Api assemblywoman Christina Liew.
