JOHOR BAHARU: An engineer was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday with the murder of his Filipina wife early this month.
Yiew Chin Hua, 33, from Kukup Laut, Pontian, is charged with murdering Vivian Biding Camarota, 32, at 77, Jalan Indah 24/10, Taman Bukit Indah here between midnight and 2.30am last June 1. The charge carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
No plea was recorded after the charge was read before Magistrate Mohd Azlan Shah Mohd Allias.
However, Yew pleaded guilty to another charge, for causing his wife to have a miscarriage without her consent by kicking the woman on her abdomen. The offence was allegedly committed at the same place, time and date.
The charge, under Section 313 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum imprisonment of 20 years and fine, if found guilty.
Nor Azlan Shah then set July 16 for mention pending a post-mortem report on the victim.
