Perak Customs seizes eight imitation firearms

IPOH: Perak Customs seized eight imitation firearms which were imported without permit, at the General Post Office here on Saturday.

State Customs Department director Datuk Mohd Nasir Said said during an inspection carried out by a Customs team at about noon, they seized among others an imitation M16 gun, MP5, air rifle, Glock and automatic Colt 45 pistols.

“The five high quality imitation firearms were estimated to be worth RM2,043.90 and duties involved amounted to RM878.88. All weapons resemble the real weapons but they use rubber bullets, while the air rifle uses copper bullets,” he told reporters yesterday.

He said a 15-year-old boy who was believed to be involved in purchasing the five weapons was detained, but he was released on bail under Section 116 of Customs Act 1967 for further investigation.

In a separate case, Mohd Nasir said a man was detained at the Bukit Berapit Immigration Complex, Pengkalan Hulu recently for owning a fake air rifle estimated to be valued at RM758.58 which involved a tax of RM303.43, and investigation was still ongoing. — Bernama
