BINTULU: Technical training centre ADTEC Bintulu hopes to have its first intake of students in January next year with Oil and Gas Engineering Technology among seven diploma courses in engineering offered.
Its advisory panel, which is chaired by Assistant Minister of Communications and Assistant Minister of Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin, held its inaugural meeting at its premises yesterday.
The panel, comprising experienced multi-discipline members from the public and private sectors, resolved to hasten the Ministry of Human Resource to expedite manpower resource allocation and delivery of training equipments.
Interest among locals towards ADTEC Bintulu is said to be strong.
SPM school leavers must have at least three credits in Science, Mathematics, Bahasa Malaysia, and a pass in English to apply for admission. Those from technical institutions must have SKM Level III qualification to be eligible for the relevant diploma courses.
ADTEC Bintulu is the first for the eastern region covering Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan. Sitting on a 60-acre site, it can accommodate 720 students at any one time. It offers engineering courses with dual certification: Malaysians Skills Diploma (DKM) and Diploma in Engineering (certified by Malaysian Qualification Agency).
It prides itself as the only one of the eight in the country to offer Oil and Gas Engineering Technology (Piping System and Plant Design), Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, and Welding Engineering courses.
The panel has given the January intake of students top priority attention, and had deliberated on future plans which include collaborations with industries and engineering schools of higher learning.
Lee said ADTEC Bintulu had a great future and that it was well positioned to provide opportunities for local Sarawakians to be equipped with skills to meet huge demand, particularly in SCORE.
ADTEC Bintulu director Dr Ramli Rashidi said their Diploma of Oil and Gas Technology (Pipling System & Plant Design) and Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Power & Solar) were tailored to meet demand in the state.
