KUCHING: A cake maker charged with statutory rape was released on a RM10,000 bail with two local sureties, after he pleaded not guilty to all three charges against him yesterday.

Nah Wee Ming, 32, appeared before Sessions Court Judge Puan Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad who fixed trial dates on Aug 29 and 30 and pre-trial case management on July 23.

He was also ordered to report himself to the nearest police station once every two weeks and he is disallowed to be in contact with the victim by whatsoever means until the final disposal of the case.

For the first charge, on May 28, between 10am and 11.45am at a house at Bampfylde Road, he was alleged to have raped a 15-year-old girl.

For the second charge, on May 29, between 10am and 11.45am, at the same place, he was charged with the same offence on the girl.

As for the third charge, he was charged with raping the girl again on June 10 at about 11am at the same place.

All the three charges fall under Section 376 of the Penal Code, which could see him being sentenced up to 30 years in jail with whipping.

The accused was detained at his house at Bampfylde Road by a team of police officers from the district headquarters at about 9am on June 12.

Initial investigation revealed that the girl had run away to be with the accused and failed to return home since. This prompted the girl’s parents to lodge a police report.
