KUCHING: SUPP central committee (CC) has resolved to refer four “personalities” to its disciplinary committee as many complaints were received against them soon after the May 5 general election.

Party president Tan Sri Peter Chin told reporters after chairing the third meeting of the 24th CC at SUPP headquarters here yesterday that another member would be slapped with a show-cause letter soon.

However, he kept the names of these five members under wrap.

When reporters pressed him whether the member to be served the show-cause letter is SUPP Sibu chairman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, Chin replied: That is, I believe, what you have heard.”

“We will make a decision later (next month) at the CWC (central working committee) meeting when to deliver (the show-cause letter),” he said.

As for the other four members, he said they would be referred to the disciplinary committee, and the committee would make recommendations to the CWC.

The meeting yesterday saw Chin tendering his resignation again, but 90 of the 111 CC delegates present rejected it.

Chin said it was improper for him to resign at the CWC meeting held after the 13th general election last month given that he was elected as the president by the CC.

“So I submitted my resignation again to CC, but it was rejected. They unanimously agreed that I am not to blame for the election defeat, and also our internal rift has caused a certain loss of votes.”

Meanwhile, the CC meeting adopted three motions, one of which called on the party leadership to take stern disciplinary actions ‘resolutely and swiftly’ as a means to reshape the party’s image and reform its strength.

Another motion touched on initiatives to ‘register party members in order to enhance the qualities of party members as well as to elevate their party’s spirit.’

Explaining that ‘party’s spirit’ meant “their love for the party”, Chin said the CWC meeting next month would discuss the mechanism to re-register members.

He said the party had to update its membership given that some members might have passed on while a few could have joined other political parties. Presently, the party’s membership register has 118,000 members.

On the show-cause letter by Registrar of Societies (ROS) to the Bekenu and Piasau branches, Chin said he had already met the ROS and would have a meeting with Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi next week.

“We have already explained to the ROS, but the new Home Affairs Minister might not have a clearer picture on the issue. So, I will have an appointment with him next week.”
