MUAR: Civil servants should be grateful for the salary movement benefit of one annual increment that will be enjoyed on July 1 this year, according to the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs).

Its deputy president, Azih Muda, although the increment was deemed small by certain quarters, it would provide great benefits to the civil servants in the long run.

“Although the increment is not big, it clearly shows the Prime Minister’s (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) concern over the welfare of the civil servants,” he said at the opening of the 30th annual general meeting of Koperasi KOSPETA Malaysia Berhad here yesterday.

The Public Service Department (PSD) had earlier announced that the implementation of the exercise followed the government’s decisions concerning career advancement and improvement on the salary structure of the civil servants, which would be resolved before Dec 31 this year.

About bonus, Azih said Cuepacs believed that the government would give better incentives to the civil servants this year as compared to the one and a half year bonus given last year.

He said Cuepacs also hoped that the government would allocate 30 per cent of the one million affordable houses to be built over the next five years to the civil servants. — Bernama
