KOTA KINABALU: Two local men pleaded not guilty to culpable homicide at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday.
Valentine Stephen, 32, and Deklerk Jimul, 22, were charged with causing the death of a 22-year-old male victim on June 15 this year, at Buit Hill, Putatan.
Both accused, who are brothers, were jointly charged under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence which provides for maximum two years’ imprisonment, and liable to a fine, upon conviction.
They were represented by counsel, Bartholomew Jingulam who urged for bail to be reduced on the grounds that both accused are locals with no possibility of absconding.
Magistrate Edward Paul fixed trial for both accused on July 31 this year and released them on RM1,800 bail each with two local sureties.
Inspector Azaman Hamat prosecuted the case.
