KOTA KINABALU: A police pondok is expected to be set up at Lintas Square, Luyang in an effort to fight crime in the area and its surroundings.

State Deputy Commissioner of Police SAC II Datuk Tan Kok Liang said shop operators and business owners had made the suggestions after several break-ins and theft cases had been reported in the areas.

“There are lots of considerations that need to be made, such as approval from the management and other relevant authorities before a police hut can be set up but we will look into it,” he said after a dialogue session with shop operators and business owners at Lintas Square in Luyang, here yesterday.

Also present were Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Edward Yong Oui Fah, City Traffic and Public Order chief DSP Peter Anak Umbuas, City Crime Investigation Department chief DSP Nor Azizulkifli Mansor and MCA Wanita chief Agnes Shim.

The operators made the proposal to set up the police hut which would be located in front of Mybank in Lintas Square, he said.

Tan said the proposal was till at its early stage and the police would have to bring the matter up to several authorities for their approval.

Meanwhile, Tan said shop operators in Lintas Square had also requested for the police to heighten police patrols at both Lintas Square and Lintas Plaza as both commercial areas are very busy especially during the night.

Tan said police would meet and talk to the area management to have additional security in the area.

“Suggestions have also been made to have a joint patrol operation with security personnel and the police to intensify crime prevention in the area.

“Police also urge shop operators, business owners, patrons as well as the public to play their role in combating crime in and around their areas by providing information to the police,” he said.
