KOTA KINABALU: Two police personnel, holding the rank of corporal and lance corporal respectively, have been detained for investigation for allegedly abusing a pregnant woman at Felda Sahabat 10, Lahad Datu, last Saturday.

State Deputy Commissioner of Police, SAC II Datuk Tan Kok Liang, said the duo would face stern action if found guilty as alleged.

“Both the corporal and lance corporal were detained yesterday (Monday, June 24) and a thorough investigation will be carried out. Currently, the case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion,” he disclosed yesterday.

Tan was responding to an alleged claim that two police personnel, a corporal and a lance corporal, abused the 35-year-old woman on June 22.

The 12.40pm incident allegedly took place when the woman, a foreigner, was on her way to Felda Sahabat 10 to meet her husband when the two police personnel approached her.

It was alleged that during interrogation, one of the policeman took the woman’s passport and demanded RM2,000 if she wants her passport back.

It was also claimed that the policemen then hit the woman several times and that one of them had allegedly fired three shots into the air with his firearm.

A police report was lodged by the woman at the Lahad Datu police headquarters the next day. It was also said that the woman had kept the spent bullet shells as evidence of the incident.
