Family of four riding on bike killed

TAWAU: Four members of a family were killed in a road accident when a motorcycle collided with a Toyota Land Cruiser at Mile 7, Kalabakan Road on Wednesday night.

District police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah said the incident occurred about 7.30pm when the four victims, riding on a motorcycle, collided head-on with the Toyota at a corner.

He said the victims were identified as Jefry bin Januddin, 30, his wife Suriyani bte Burhan, 21, and their children Asrah Wahidah, three, and one-year-old Mohd Syukur.

Awang Dullah added the victims were heading towards Brantian from Kalabakan and while descending the corner they collided with the Toyota heading towards Kalabakan from Tawau.

He said all the victims died at the scene of the incident due to serious injuries on the heads, bodies, hands and legs, while the driver of the Land Cruiser sustained injury on the chest and was treated at the Tawau General Hospital.

He said the weather was fine and the traffic was not busy when the accident occurred.

However, he said the road was dark as there are no streetlights.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
