King attends meeting of Conference of Rulers

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, yesterday attended the 232nd meeting of the Conference of Rulers at the Istana Negara.

The meeting was chaired by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

All the Malay rulers and the Yang Dipertuas Negeri attended the meeting except for the Sultan of Perak, who was represented by the Regent, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah Sultan Azlan Shah; and the Sultan of Pahang, who was represented by the Tengku Mahkota, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak also attended the meeting.

The Malay rulers were accompanied by the respective menteris besar while the Yang Dipertuas Negeri of Penang, Sabah and Melaka were accompanied by their respective chief ministers.

The Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak was accompanied by Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu who represented the chief minister.

The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, said in a statement that the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, extended congratulations to Najib on his reappointment as the prime minister after the 13th general election on May 5.

He said Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said he hoped that country would continue to undergo intensive progress and development while maintaining the solidarity and harmony which the people had enjoyed for a long time.

Syed Danial said the meeting was also briefed on the nation’s security and defence by the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin, and the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.

The meeting also discussed matters pertaining to Islam as well as appointments, including the appointments of members of the Public Service Commission and the Education Service Commission. — Bernama
