NIGHTMARE: Nur Jannah could not hold her emotions after Sarawak was beaten by Terengganu in the Sukma fencing competition.

KUALA LUMPUR: There was allround disappointment as Sarawak fail to win any medal in the Sukma fencing competition.

Both the men’s and women’s teams were eliminated in the early stages of the competition.

On the fi nal day of fencing, the women’s team had remained as the state’s only realistic hope to win a medal for Sarawak but they were instead edged by Terengganu 44-45.

The team led comfortably at one stage during the match.

Nur Jannah Sahari initially did well in her duel to extend her team’s lead to 42-36.

But Terengganu soon drew level and then stretched further to win the match.

The men’s team was a l s o eliminated in the early stages by Negeri Semiblan 20-45.

A disappointed state coach Muhamad Fairuz Ibrahim refused to elaborate further.

“There is nothing for me to say.

I just could not fi nd any words to describe how disappointed I feel right now,” he said.

Sarawak’s team manager Mohd Azmi Zakaria also shared the deep disappointment.

The Sukma XVI fencing events were held from June 27 – 30.
