Jobless man pleads not guilty to drug-trafficking charge

SIBU: An unemployed man charged with drug-trafficking pleaded not guilty to the charge at the High Court here yesterday.

Ling Leh Hoe was alleged to have trafficked in dangerous drug of Cannabis, an offence that may send him to the gallows if convicted.

He was also charged with dangerous drug possession, an offence which carries five years’ in jail sentence or RM100,000 fine, or both, if convicted.

In the first charge, Ling, in his 30s, was accused of trafficking in Cannabis weighing 390.76 grams in a hotel room at Lanang Road about 2.15pm on March 5.

The offence is listed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, and punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same act.

For the second charge, he was accused of having in his possession dangerous drug weighing 0.26 grams at the same venue and time.

The offence is framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same act.

Mohd Azrul prosecuted while Ling was represented by Counsel Daren Ling Hang Hui.

Justice Supang Lian ordered that the case be brought for further case management mention on Aug 20.
