Policy reforms to enhance teaching process – deputy minister

TAWAU: The Education Ministry has planned and implemented a range of education policy reforms to enhance the learning and teaching process in schools to generate more educated youngsters capable of contributing to the religion and nation-building, said Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching.

She said these education policy reforms would never have any meaning without the hard work of educators.

“All the educators are the front liners in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of upholding the Malay language and strengthening the English language, and even in the ‘One pupil, One Sport’ program,” Mary pointed out.

She said it would be the responsibility for educators to identify and show their concerns towards the progress of development and weaknesses among their students.

Mary’s text of speech was delivered by Aminuddin Baki Institute director Dato Haji Khairil Hj Awang at the launch of the district-level 42th Teachers’ Day celebration held at SJKC Yuk Chin here yesterday morning, with this year’s theme ‘Malaysia Teacher: One Aspiration One Agenda’.

“Apart from teaching, all the educators must be aware of their heavy responsibility in shaping the character and self-esteem among the youngsters. They also have an advantage in terms of knowledge of child psychology and pedagogical expertise.

“The educators should able to implement appropriate education methods by focusing on the situation, condition, and even on the characters of each student, until they could possess good moral values.

“The educators are also the transformation catalysts in ensuring the youngsters would be able to equip themselves with the elements of science and technology, communication, spiritual, behavior and measures, physical development, humanitarian and skills while encountering with a more challenging world in the coming future,” Mary pointed out.

Therefore, she warned that all the educators should be ready in welcoming any changes in educational field in the context of learning and teaching.

“Every district education department will not miss the transformation, especially in terms of developing the presence of teachers in school via Educational Management Information System (EMIS) which is monitored daily through the dashboard of district education,” she said.

According to Mary, the Education Ministry is also taking steps to streamline and improve the teachers’ professionalism to continue to be respected and revered by the community.

“The government also does not look down on the contributions of teachers by providing various incentives to them,” she added.

Haji Jamal Bin Haji Sulaiman, 62, Ghazali Bin Haji Salali, 62, and Michael Chong, 70, were declared as super teachers this year.
