KUCHING: Community leaders should help ensure the target group gets to enjoy all government development programmes.

Padawan Municipal Council (PMC) chairman Lo Khere Chiang said, for instance, community leaders could help the poor by getting their names into the e-Kasih registry at nearby district offices.

“The Prime Minister’s Department has implemented many programmes to help the people, especially the poor. E-Kasih is one of them.

“Such programmes will only be successful if community leaders help by informing the target group that such aids exist,” he said at the launching of Kampung Tematu Multipurpose Hall

Users and Management Recreation Club Roadshow yesterday.

To help the poor start small businesses, Lo said the federal government allocated RM90,000 to PMC to provide metal stalls for this group of people.

In addition, those involved were also given RM20,000 as start-up capital.

Lo said PMC recently upgraded stalls at the junction of Kampung Sinjok along Jalan Kuching-Serian, and it was now upgrading stall at the junction of Kampung Bumbok along Jalan Kuching-Bau.

Once the work is done, he added, the stalls would be handed over to the relevant village security and development committee (JKKK).

Lo said the government also provided Rumah Mesra Rakyat aid for the hardcore poor.

“We (PMC) have implemented two or three Rumah Mesra Rakyat houses for the hardcore poor to date.”

Lo said all these assistance came from the Barisan Nasional (BN) government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“They are meant to help the needy, regardless of their race and religion.”

Also present were club chairman John Pata James Jumin and Kampung Tematu community leader Akuet Anggok.
