Kaamatan-Gawai joint celebration in kk on July 11

KOTA KINABALU: The Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and Dayak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will jointly celebrate Kaamatan-Gawai festival, here on July 11.

Organizing chairman cum KCCI advisor, Datuk Ajit Galun said the joint celebration marked its seventh year since it was launched seven years ago, with the first being hosted by KCCI, here in 2007.

“KCCI and DCCI take turn to host this celebration every year. This year, we have the privilege to host the event once again,” he told reporters, here yesterday.

Ajit said this year’s celebration with a theme of “Enhancing Wealth Through Culture” was, among others, aimed at enhancing networking and fostering fellowship between the two major ethnic communities in Sabah and Sarawak.

He said United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO) president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok was expected to grace the function.

Ajit said among the highlights for the evening celebration would be the Kumang Gawai and Unduk Ngadau Kamaatan parading in their respective ethnic costumes.

He said more than 300 people, including 150 members of the DCCI, were expected to attend the joint Kaamatan-Gawai celebration. — Bernama
