KUCHING: The state DAP has called upon Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to apologise and retract his negative statement on the Chinese community.

According to DAP organising secretary Violet Yong, Zahid should instead focus his attention on the security of the
country rather than inciting racial tension with his statement.

“He should not have uttered such statement as though the Chinese are to be blamed for everything that cropped up.

“If he is a responsible minister, he should retract what he said and apologise to the Chinese community,” she said at a press conference at DAP headquarters here yesterday.

Yong, who is also Pending assemblywoman, was referring to Zahid’s statement which was published in a local Chinese
daily that “the Chinese community should work together with the government to fight crime and not just observe as bystanders.”
