TAWAU: A woman and one of her daughters were injured on the left leg and head respectively when they were beaten up by an masked robber with an iron rod early Monday.

The victims were attacked when they were trying to prevent the robber from taking their two handbags in the living room of their home at Jalan Kao Sing at about 1am.

The mother of four daughters spotted the robber in the living room when she came out of a toilet and started to yell “Orang! Orang! Orang!.” (somebody)

The man, who was believed to have entered the wooden house through the kitchen door, demanded money from her, and after she told him that she had no money, he tried to snatch two handbags.

One of her daughters, Madiana, 16, tried to pull back the handbags from the robber with the help of her mother, Lahama, but were both attacked with the iron rod which was believed to be used for harvesting oil palm fruit bunches.

The robber managed to flee with one of the handbags which was however empty.

gWe sustained injuries and bleeding and immediately made a call to our neighbor Lo Kin On for help.

gHe took us to the emergency unit of district general hospital in his car after the incident,” Lahama said.

The other three daughters, aged between 12 and 23, were also awakened from sleep while their father who works as a security guard at San Shui Golf Club from 7pm to 7am later found a handbag at the nearby plantation which turned out to be the one taken by the robber.

gI noticed the familiar handbag and picked up to bring home when I was on my way home from work, and realized it is the handbag which was stolen by the robber,” said Mardang.

Lo said he received Lahama’s call at about 2am and rushed to their house.

He saw Lahama and her daughter bleeding from injuries and immediately sent them to the hospital for treatment.

On Monday morning, the Bureau of Social Economy Development Tawau chairman Yapp Yin Hoau paid a visit to the victims after being informed by Lo and Richard Pang who are the persons in charge of Apas security division.
