KOTA KINABALU: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hj Hajiji Mohd Noor has verbally agreed to let the Sabah United Chinese Chambers Of Commerce (SUCCC) recommend two representatives from each Chinese chamber to be appointed as municipal and district councillors throughout Sabah.

SUCCC had informed the Chinese chambers of commerce in the state to submit their recommendations which were handed over to Hajiji yesterday afternoon, its secretary-general, Datuk Ling Tiong Chai, told a press conference here yesterday.

Ling said SUCCC, especially its president, Datuk Seri Panglima Gan Sau Wah, had been fighting for representation for the Chinese business community in the municipal and district councils in order to effectively convey the wishes of the Chinese community and businessmen.

He said he had represented SUCCC in meeting Hajiji on Tuesday to convey the proposal and the latter had verbally agreed to it.

“The SUCCC secretariat immediately informed the Chinese chambers of commerce in Sabah to submit their recommendations to SUCCC.

“After compiling the recommendations, we then submitted the name list to the Ministry of Local Government and Housing for the minister’s consideration.”

Ling said some Chinese chambers of commerce had submitted their recommendations to the ministry via their own channels.

Also present were SUCCC vice secretary-general Raymond Lim and secretariat chief Kapitan Lim Shim Min.
