PETALING JAYA: WWF-Malaysia has recevied RM52,500 in funding from the Malaysian Wildlife Conservation Foundation (MWCF) for its conservation work on tigers and sea turtles for a period of one year until June 2014.

A statement from WWF-Malaysia yesterday said that conservation work on the tigers would be through community engagement such as a workshop on wildlife hunting, educational talks and training which would be carried out in the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex (BTFC).

Under the National Tiger Action Plan for Malaysia, the BTFC is recognised as one of three priority sites for tiger conservation in Peninsular Malaysia, and is considered to be one of the strongholds for tigers, believed to be supporting at least 10 per cent of the estimated 500 tigers in the country. — Bernama
