KUCHING: Wirtgen (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Wirtgen) and CMS Works Sdn Bhd (CMS Works), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMS), have officially unveiled the new Wirtgen WR240 cold recycler and soil stabiliser with CMS Works being the first to fully utilise the equipment in Malaysia.

At the official handing over ceremony between Wirtgen and CMS Works here yesterday, CMS Works’ chief executive officer (CEO) Lim Jit Yaw said the WR240 model is the first unit of its kind in Malaysia.

Both Lim and CMS Works chief operating officer Lai Hen Kim expressed their confidence in Wirtgen WR240, adding that Wirtgen has always provided CMS Works with technical support on how to use, maintain and get the best value from the company’s machinery.

Additionally, Lim said the Wirtgen WR240 can help CMS Works reduce its carbon footprint.

With the new cold recycling and soil stabilisation machine, “We reduce the amount of bitumen usage and raw materials as we recycle the pavement we are handing,” he noted.

The Wirtgen WR240 uses a technique makes cement or bitumen as a binding agent to improve the bonding performance of the road base materials and subgrade materials in road construction.

The concept will overall improve the structural strength of raod pavement, lower construction and maintenance costs, and conserve natural resouces by recycling materials from the original road pavement.

Meanwhile, the managing director of Wirtgen Malaysia, Pok Sum Loong revealed that the Wirtgen WR240, which was first launched globally last year, was birthed out of the realisation on the importance of recycling and saving cost.

“For Sarawak specifically, the road network is growing every day and public expectations in terms of safer and durable road, the public’s awareness is increasing,” Pok added.

Meanwhile, Lim said that the new Wirtgen WR240 will add ‘value’ to the roads as it saves cost while retaining its good quality, and hence, its benefits will reflect back to the rakyat.

The new Wirtgen WR240 is equipped with improved features such as a modern ergonomic design, all-round visibility with camera support, full operational control using advance joystick technology and better maneuverability.

With these new features, Lim noted that the machine is easier to use as it is also mostly automated and he expects that the machine will reduce margin of error.

He further added, “They (CMS Works’ employees) will have more time to focus on their effort to build the road instead of operating the machine.”

On the other hand, Pok revealed that Wirtgen Malaysia, which is also the pioneer in supplying cold recycling and soil stabilising machinery, is planning to bring in five more WR240 units into Malaysia.

On a global front, he noted that Wirtgen had already sold about 400 units of the WR240 which is valued at approximately RM3 million per unit, since its launch.

Additionally, Pok said that Wirtgen Malaysia sets itself apart from competitors in Malaysia by providing high quality after-sales services. He added the company is also prepared to send its specialists from its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur or its global offices, to the machine site should its clients require assistance.

Wirtgen Malaysia will also work closely with its clients by providing specialists to guide its clients and their employees on how to use, repair and maintain the machine as well as apply the usage of the machine on pavement constructions.
