MUKAH: A total of 54,064 individuals have been identified by the Sarawak Social Welfare Department as being eligible for welfare aid as of June, 2013.

Minister of Welfare, Women and Family Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah said they were selected by the department’s satellite offices and mobile units.

“We are trying our best to ensure no eligible people are left out of the system,” said Fatimah at a Basket of Food presentation at Rumah Empi Daweh in Nanga Sikat here yesterday.

One hundred and twenty-six people from seven longhouses received food baskets at the event.

On the 11th state election, Fatimah said Barisan Nasional (BN) would go all out to defend their stranglehold on the state government.

“I am sure, the opposition from every state will be coming to Sarawak to help in the campaigning,” she said.

The current term of the State Legislative Assembly expires on June 19, 2016, but the chief minister has the prerogative to dissolve the Assembly earlier.

Also present at the ceremony yesterday was Mukah Social Welfare Department assistant director Tang kee Lee.
