MIRI: Three Junior Chamber International (JCI) organisations in Miri held a joint blood donation campaign at Bintang Megamall here yesterday.

JCI Lutong, JCI Riam and JCI Miri held the last event for the week long JCI Week 2013 that ended yesterday.

According to JCI Riam president Samantha Yong, they hoped to collect as much blood as possible and the various blood types through the donation drive to help Miri Hospital Blood Bank top up its supply.

During the activity, the organisers also took the opportunity to raise funds for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ‘Send A Net, Save A Life’ campaign, which was set up to buy mosquito nets for Africa to prevent the spread of affliction by the malaria disease.

“In 2000, the largest gathering of world leaders at the United Nations headquarters in New York adopted the United Nations Millennium Declaration.

“The declaration, endorsed by 189 countries, committed nations to a global partnership to reduce extreme poverty and it set out a series of targets to be reached by 2015.

“These have become known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),” Samantha said of the ‘Send A Net, Save A Life’ campaign.
