Review NCR land laws, urges PRS Youth

SIBU: The Youth wing of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has called on the government to review all laws relating to native customary rights (NCR) land following a recent Federal Court ruling.

Its vice chief, Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, said a ruling by the Federal Court was that ownership of NCR land could not be transferred by the owner to another person outside their community.

“But nowadays Dayaks are residing all over the state, either due to work or marriage.

“This ruling restricts their right to NCR land in their current place of residence or employment,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

“I urged the state legislature to look at NCR issues seriously as it involves native heritage. The court ruling has also made interpretation of laws governing NCR land vague.”
