KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) supreme council member Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah yesterday laughed off Pakatan Rakyat (PR)’s confidence in ousting Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next state election.

He said the statement by state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice-chairman See Chee How was like “having a good dream”.

“Well… it is always beautiful to have good dreams… he (See Chee How) can keep on dreaming,” he responded yesterday when asked for his opinion on See’s statement that PR was confident of victory in the next state election, and would go all out to oust BN.

Among others, See, who is Batu Lintang assemblyman, was quoted as saying that PR was gearing towards capturing power in the state in the next state election.

“So the next state election, we (PR) are going all out not for ourselves, but for the people in general,” he said.

Sarawak has 71 state constituencies. Abdul Karim pointed out that without sounding arrogant, the state cannot be equated with other states.

“The state BN component parties had looked after the state, and the people are generally happy despite the instigation and mudslinging by PR,” he stressed, citing the 13th general election (GE13) in May.

The Assistant Youth Development Minister and Asajaya assemblyman pointed out that the people’s support towards the state BN was clearly reflected in GE13, where the coalition won more than two-thirds of seats in contention.

In the election, state BN won 25 of the 31 parliamentary seats.

State BN secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi also shared similar opinion, saying that See was only “daydreaming”.

Dr Rundi, who is Assistant Minister of Electricity and Telecommunication and Kemena assemblyman, noted that PR, especially PKR, was virtually wiped out by BN in GE13.

“The people ‘sudah muak’ (feeling sick) with the opposition, and the empty talk is no more ‘laku’ (not saleable anymore),” he said in his text message.
