SIBU: SMK Deshon produced a splendid result in the 2013 Penang Wushu Youth Championship held in Penang recently.

Sibu Gymnastic (Wushu) Association (SGWA) chief coach Wong Siaw Ling led the SMK Deshon team.

More than 500 exponents from Kuala Lumpur, Kedah, Penang and Sarawak took part in the two-day championship.

The four participants from SMK Deshon – Kiing Kiu Teck, Kiing Kiu Hoe, Tey Yuan Jun and Tey Yi Wen – returned with five gold, three silver and four bronze medals.

Kiu Teck secured a gold medal each in guiding daoshu and guiding gunshu and a silver medal in guiding changquan.

At 17, Kiu Teck continued the fine form he showed at the recent 1st Brunei Wushu Championship where he returned with two gold medals in daoshu and gunshu.

However, it was the 17-year-old Yi Wen who stole the limelight when she chalked up a gold medal each in guiding changquan, guiding jiangshu and guiding qiangshu.

Wong was impressed with Yi Wen’s performance.

“If she continues to carve out a strong passion for the sport, she can be a star to watch in the future,” Wong said.

For Yuan Juan, he secured a silver medal each in chuji changquan and chuji daoshu and a bronze in chuji qunshu.

Kiu Hoe also returned with three bronze medals in guiding changquan, guiding jianshu and guiding qiangshu.
