KUCHING: A 17-year-old boy charged with killing another young man at Sri Aman end of last year maintained his innocence in the High Court here yesterday.

Justice Yew Jen Kie, who presided over the case, ordered a defence counsel to be assigned to the accused and therefore adjourned the mention of the case to July 31.

The youth allegedly caused the death of Langgang Kaju, 23, at the veranda of Rumah Ulak, Tanjung Bijat, around 2am on Dec 18 last year.

Murder, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, provides a mandatory death penalty upon conviction.

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man was placed on a three-day remand to facilitate a burglary case investigation.

Court Registrar Aida Montong granted the application made by the police as they could not complete their investigation in less than 24 hours.

The suspect from Jalan Batu Kitang was arrested at the high court compound here on Wednesday at 3.30pm.

The case came to light following a report lodged by a complainant claiming that his house was broken into and
that two laptops, cash of RM300, a credit card and a watch worth RM500 were stolen.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code.
