KUALA LUMPUR: Lembah Pantai Umno division leader Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin has filed a lawsuit against Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament Nurul Izzah Anwar and two others for allegedly defaming him over the purchase of land in Bukit Kiara.

Besides Nurul Izzah, who is also Parti Keadilan Rakyat vice-president, Raja Nong Chik also named Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd, the owner of the Malaysiakini news portal, and Malaysiakini journalist, Lu Wei Hoong, as defendants.

The writ of the summons was made available to the media today.

Lawyer M.Reza Hassan, who is representing Raja Nong Chik, said the case had been fixed for case management on Aug 19 before High Court Judge Datin Yeoh Wee Siam. In the statement of claim, Raja Nong Chik, 60, stated that Nurul Izzah, 33,

had issued the false and defamatory statement on the land purchase at a media conference at Bangunan Bakti, Taman Tun Dr Ismail here a day before polling for the 13th general election was held.

He claimed that the statement by Nurul Izzah was posted on the Malaysiakini website on the same day, which was May 4 this year.

Raja Nong Chik is seeking an injunction to stop the defendants, or their agents, from further publishing the alleged defamatory words against him.

He is also seeking general and aggravated damages and an order for the defendants to publish an apology, as well as interests and costs. — Bernama
