HAPPY ANNIVERSARY: Captain Tiong (centre) leads the cutting of BB’s 3rd SibuCompany anniversary cake to mark the auspicious occasion.

SIBU: The Boy’s Brigade (BB) 3rd Company Sibu held a grand celebration of its 20th anniversary at a leading hotel here last Saturday evening.

BB Malaysia chaplain Rev Richard Tok in his message for the company 20th anniversary souvenir booklet said the event was a celebration of its achievement as overall it had the largest number of junior members for 2011-2012 period.

He said: “I would like to leave a thought with you all coming from Paul to young Pastor Timothy ‘Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them because if you do, you will save yourself and your hearers- (1 Timothy) 4:16’ ”.

Saying that BB has been a Christian uniform youth movement witnessing to non-Christian communities all over the world, he said the BB of Sibu had shown its impact and seen the validity of its witnesses.

Through its activities, he added, many people from non- believing background over the years have come into contact with BB, its programmes and eventually enter the church to become its members and then leaders.

In telling the BB members that outdoor activities have powerful attractions, he said it was their character that mattered most in the real world.

“Our concern should be the spiritual programme that sought to penetrate the heart and soul. The teaching and learning of the words of God should not be neglected”.

He further reminded the BB that in some places the stories and lessons from the Bible have been relegated to secondary position and he was sure the  BB 3rd Company Sibu has been faithful to the living word as well as the written words.

In addition, he prayed that the Gospel would never lose its appeal and its rightful place as their concerns were for the souls of the boys and girls and that through their participation in the BB they would have an opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

He also said that mentors, instructors or officers of BB should lead exemplary lives as they are models being watched by the boys and girls.

As such, their faith and practice ought to be consistent.

“We must live a good life by Christian and Biblical standard,” he stated.

Meanwhile the evening’s function was attended by BB state commissioner Captain Lo Hoi Fook, and leader of BB’s 3rdCompany Sibu Captain Tiong Kai Chiong as well as senior officers, members and mentors of the organisation.
