KUCHING: Local franchise SCR Corporation Sdn Bhd (SCR) aims to have 100 outlets operational within the next five years, driven by expansions via its recent foray into the franchise industry.

Managing director Johnson Tan and general manager of SCR’s franchising and strategic planning Johnny Leo highlighted this to The Borneo Post during a recent visit to SCR’s head office at Taman Timberland.

“To date, we have 40 outlets throughout Sarawak, Sabah and Brunei,” Leo explained, adding that by the end of 2013, the homegrown restaurant chain plans to have 17 new outlets operational.

The group, formerly known as Singapore Chicken Rice, took its first step into franchising its business in July 2012.

“We expect that the franchising programme will have a lot of response in coming years.

“This will give us the motivation to expand faster into the new market especially in Asean countries as these countries are rice based which suits our kind of business,” Tan outlined.

He further added that this was in line with the ompany’s vision to go regional instead of just concentrating on East Malaysia.

On achieving the target, Leo expressed his confidence as via the franchising strategy, SCR is slated to open an average of 15 outlets per year.

Meanwhile, SCR has confirmed that nine outlets are in the pipeline and are set to open in the second half of 2013.

These include another outlet in Brunei, Myy Mall (Miri), Kidurong (Bintulu), Golden Square (Serian), Parkcity (Bintulu), Oceanus Park (Kota Kinabalu), Everrise King Centre, Unicapital (Kota Samarahan), and Hotel Lobby Seri Simanggang (Sri Aman).
