KINARUT: National Puteri Umno chief Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin has yet to decide if she will contest for a post in the party’s supreme council or Women movement at the Umno election this December.

According to Rosnah, there are several factors she needs to look into and consider before making her decision.

The Papar member of parliament said she was not offering to defend the Puteri Umno chief post because of the age limit factor which is 40 years old.

“I have passed the age limit to remain in Puteri Umno as I am now 41. I have been in the post for five years and am very satisfied with the performance of Puteri Umno throughout the country,” Rosnah told reporters after closing a Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) course for contractors here Sunday night.

The age limit for Puteri Umno members is 35 and for their leaders, 40. Puteri Umno leaders and members will automatically become Wanita Umno members after they attain that age.

Rosnah, who is Deputy Works Minister, said this when asked whether she would go for a Wanita Umno post.

“We see the possibility of the Puteri Umno chief post being contested because a few leaders from the movement have said they were ready to contest. I hope the contest will be friendly and in the spirit of camaraderie.

“We have just gone through the general election. Actually our focus now should be on strengthening the party. So my hope is that Puteri Umno members can use the election as part of the process to strengthen the movement so that those who will lead the party in the future can bring the members to greater heights,” she said.

Rosnah added that the leadership qualities of those offering their services were exemplary so it was up to the delegates to choose who they felt was best.

“I also hope that the intention of Puteri Umno members offering to contest for posts in the Wanita movement will not be looked as confrontational to the senior leaders,” she said.
