Annuar was appointed to the post on July 19, said a statement released by Mara yesterday.

Annuar, 57, holds a Master’s in Construction Management from the University College of London and a Bachelor’s degree in Town and Country Planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

He has served as the assistant director of town planning at Kuala Lumpur City Hall; director of the corporate planning division of the Kelantan Economic Development Corporation; chairman of the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama) from 1989 to 1990 and as chairman of the Kemubu Agriculture Development Authority (Kada) from 2005 to May 2013.

Annuar has also served as the Minister of Youth and Sports (1990-1993) and as the Minister of Rural Development (1993-1999).

He has also been the state assemblyman for Peringat (1986-1990) and Kok Lanas (2004-2008) and the MP for Peringat, renamed from Ketereh (1995-1999).

Mara said in the statement that Annuar would be able to strengthen the organisation and raise its status given his academic background and wide political experience.
