SIBU: Barisan Nasional (BN) should not be content with just shielding its strongholds in the rural areas but must also have a strategy to launch an offensive in urban areas.

To PBB permanent chairman Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, “attack is the best form of defence” and that such strategy would fortify the strength of BN component parties in non-Bumiputera areas in the coming polls.

“We need to work out a strategy where we can analyse and identify the weakness of the opposition and launch a counter-offensive in urban areas,” Asfia, who is State Legislative Assembly speaker, told reporters after handing
over donations to seven mosques and 13 surau at Surau Darul Islam, Bandong Road here yesterday.

A total of RM27,000 was given out, with each mosque getting RM2,000 while each surau received RM1,000.

Asfia also stressed the importance of having strong BN machinery and that only those with the highest chance of winning should be fielded.

He said these when asked on the strength of BN machinery and DAP spreading its wings into the rural areas.

On a related matter, Asfia said the state BN could have won 27 seats in the 13th general election had there been no wrong choice of candidates, internal bickering and intra-party problems.

“Hence, counter-offensive on urban areas is needed as attack is the best form of defence.”

On PBB, he expressed confidence that it would be able to repeat its excellent track record at the next state election.

“As far as PBB is concerned, we have no problem but we also want other component parties to be strong and not just PBB,” he said.
