KOTA KINABALU: The State Government will make an appropriate announcement on the bonus for civil servants soon, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman.

“We will discuss on the matter soon,” he said yesterday when asked to comment on the newly announced RM835 million of special financial assistance to civil servants and government pensioners.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak when making the announcement on Wednesday, said RM500 each would be paid to civil servants on Grade One to 54.

He also announced a RM250 special financial assistance for the 660,000 government pensioners and all payments would be made on July 31.

Musa was met during the annual presentation of Raya goodies to the security forces in Sabah at the Tun Mustapha Tower here.

He described the event as a ‘yearly tradition’, especially during the Ramadhan Month.

“It is a celebration to show our gratitude and appreciation towards the security forces for their hardwork and sacrifices to ensure that our state remain peaceful,” he said.

Thanking the government bodies, government-linked and private companies, and non-governmental organisations for the Raya goodies, he hoped that the simple gesture would be able to bring smiles on those who will be parting with their families for work during the festive season.

Earlier in his speech, Musa said: “Without them (security forces), there will be unrest. We have seen on television countries like Syria and Egypt are in war, so we should be thankful to be living in a peaceful country.”
