JOHOR BAHARU: A teacher lost RM20,490 to a con man in a purported Dubai holiday package prize early this month.

The 28-year-old woman who only wanted to be identified as Tan, said she was contacted on July 7 by a man claiming to represent an electrical company in Hong Kong.

“He told me that I had won the prize worth RM120,000. I did not want to accept the prize but he somehow persuaded me to exchange it for cash, on the condition that I deposited RM20,000 for the administrative fees,” she told reporters at a meeting arranged by Johor MCA Public Complaints Bureau chairman Michael Tay here yesterday.

Tan said she deposited RM5,800 into the account of the man on July 8 and another RM5,000 the following day. — Bernama
