KUCHING: National diving queen, Pandelela Rinong Pamg finished sixth in the final of 10m individual platform event in the World Championships held in Barcelona after she was penalised for a mistake made during her third attempt.
Even though she retook the dive and earned high points, the judges however deducted 14 penalty points for the earlier mistake made when performing her arm stand.
The 20-year-old diver could only came in sixth placing even though her two earlier dives had bagged enough points to secure the bronze medal and trailing Chinese divers, defending champion Chen Ruolin and Si Yajie who later became the eventual winner.
The 14-year-old Si created a major upset after upstaging two-time Olympic champion, Chen and European champion, Iullia Prokopchuk of Ukraine who finished third.
Pandelela, the two-time Malaysia’s Sportswoman of the Year, however managed to regain her composure and hang on in sixth place until the end of competition.
