SERIOUS INJURIES: The elderly woman being wheeled to the Red Zone for admission after the accident.

KUCHING: A senior citizen suffered serious head injuries after she was knocked down by a car along Jalan Batu Kawah here around noon yesterday.

The incident happened when the 85-year-old victim was struck by a Perodua Kenari- driven by a nurse- while crossing a road not far from her house.

Word of the collision reached the ears of the victim’s daughter, who then rushed her unconscious mother to the Sarawak General Hospital where she was then admitted into the Red Zone.

In an unrelated matter, a 78-year-old man sought medical attention after he was beaten up by his intoxicated son at their house yesterday morning.

The senior citizen told reporters that the incident happened around 10am when his son, who just returned here from Bintulu, entered the family’s house at Desa Wira in Batu Kawa here in an intoxicated state.

Ignoring his son’s condition, the victim said he proceeded to his own bedroom to attend to his wife, who has been ill for the past six months, but suddenly found his path blocked by his son.

Without warning, his son began raining blows on him until he collapsed on the floor, before walking out of the house.

Following the attack, the visibly upset victim made his way to the Sarawak General Hospital to seek treatment for a bruised left eye and cuts to his arms.
