KOTA BAHARU: Traffic policeman Insp Farid Hasni Mamat who lost his right leg in a road accident during the Kuala Besut state by-election in Terengganu had VIP visitors yesterday at the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital in Kubang Kerian where he is recuperating.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, Pilgrims Management and Fund Board (Tabung Haji) chairman Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, Tabung Haji Kelantan director Mohd Nasir Mohd Yusoff and Tanah Merah MP Datuk Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz called on him.

Abdul Azeez handed over to Farid Hasni, 32, a Tabung Haji contribution of RM10,000 under the organisation’s corporate social responsibility programme of assistance for the needy.

Farid Hasni, of the Melaka Tengah District Police headquarters in Melaka, lost the leg after a speeding car crashed onto his high-powered motorcycle in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan Alor Peroi in Kuala Besut on July 17. The policeman said he was touched by the support from the people following the accident and this encouraged him to want to continue serving the nation.

Hospital director Datuk Dr Zaidon Kamari said Farid Hasni was in good health and the hospital was monitoring the amputated leg to prevent infection. — Bernama
