SIBU: This year’s Borneo Talent Awards (BTA) is from Nov 21-24 at the Civic Centre, with entry forms already available for downloading from www.smc.gov.my.

Entries must be submitted to the Sibu Municipal Council office at level 23, Wisma Sanyan by Nov 11 at the latest.

BTA organizing chairperson Wong Hie Ping said the contest is open to all Malaysians.

The preliminary rounds are on Nov 21 and 22 while the semi-final is on Nov 23 and the final, Nov 24.

Wong told a press conference yesterday the adjudicators looked for talents that could be performed either individually or as a team as artistic entertainment.

“Talents can be in the form of singing, dancing, musical instrument recital, magic show, mimic show, pantomime, acrobatics, and so forth,” she pointed out.

Prizes up for grabs are for the Talent of the Year (main award), the Most Popular Talent Award, the Most Entertaining Talent Award, and seven Special Talent Awards.

The main award carries a trophy and RM5,000 cash.

The Most Popular Award and the Most Entertaining Talent Award each carries a trophy and RM1,000 cash.

“Final Judging for the Most Popular Talent Award shall include 50 per cent from the judge, 30 per cent SMS voting, and 20 per cent ticket voting,” he said.

As for the Special Talent Award, each of the seven winners shall take home a trophy and RM500 cash.

BTA, according to Sibu Municipal Council deputy chairman Daniel Ngieng, is an extension of council’s effort to unearth the talents and creativity of Malaysians.

“It seems to be very successful. Many companies have invited some of the BTA past contestants to perform at their functions.

“This is a very positive outcome of our initiative,” he enthused.

BTA, he added, is a very good opportunity for the public to showcase their talents.
